Now this is a move that sent the fashion-sphere and the whole entire industry into a frenzy! We all know Virgil Abloh as the founder and CEO of the Milan based high-street fashion label Off-White, and as of recently he was named the new creative art director for Louis Vuitton menswear. You must be living underneath a rock if you didn’t know that by now. Was he what I expected? Yes, kind of. As rumours of him being hired for the position have been swirling around since earlier this year. Is he the right man for the job? In my humble opinion he most definitely is! A surprising but maybe also a much needed change or shall I say addition. Cause Abloh made it known that the codes of the house will lie intact stating the following; ”I find the heritage and creative integrity of the House are key inspirations and will look to reference them both while drawing parallels to modern times”.
Abloh will present his first collection at men’s fashion week in Paris later this year and I am beyond excited. Another reason to celebrate is that this also marks him the first person of African Descent as leading the brands menswear line. As well as one of the few black designers at the helm of a major French house, which includes the likes of Olivier Rousteing at Balmain and Oswald Boating at Givenchy menswear from 2003-2007…you just know I had to throw that in there haha. Either way my congratulations go out to Virgil and I can not wait for him to debut his line with Louis Vuitton menswear! Exciting times.
What do ya’ll think about Virgil his new position at Louis? Is he the right man for job? Can you even imagine what his show will look like? Let’s get the discussion popping in the comment section down below.
